Duff Goldman – Ace of Cakes

Submitted by Greg on 10/20/2009 – 12:00 pmNo Comment

Picture 3Thanks a ton to Duff Goldman from Ace of Cakes for stopping by the studio today. It was a ton of fun.

Chef Duff started out as a graffiti artist and then trained at a top culinary school. Far from your typical baker, Duff uses power tools, blowtorches, airbrushes and chainsaws to create amazing sculptured masterpieces out of flour, sugar, fondant, cake.

Every week at Charm City Cakes in Baltimore, Duff and his team of artists try to meet the demands of creating up to 20 cakes a week, some of which take up to 29 hours to build! From a tilted Dr. Seuss-like seven-tiered wedding cake to an almost perfect replica of Wrigley Field, Duff can build it. Go behind the scenes to see how he and his fellow cake bakers dish up sugar and spice in the most unexpected and entertaining ways.

More information about Duff Goldman can be found on his website, www.charmcitycakes.com.

And check out Duff’s new book which was just released.

Ace of Cakes: Inside the World of Charm City Cakes, Duff Goldman, Food Network’s indomitable “Ace of Cakes,” reveals the inspiration behind some of the most outrageous and extraordinary, gravity and reality-defying confectionary creations in the world. An eye-popping collection of photos, illustrations, stories, reflections, collages, and memorabilia celebrating the eccentric Baltimore bakery where everything takes off, Ace of Cakes is a truly delectable volume that shows the magic that can happen when creativity is king and “no limits” is the mantra.
