Submitted by Greg on 01/13/2010 – 9:46 am5 Comments

angel_alomaThanks again to Angel Aloma for being on our show today to share with us the important work of Food For The Poor and their efforts to help the people of Haiti after the devastating 7.0 earthquake that struck that region on January 12, 2010. To donate, either visit their website or call 800-487-1158.

Also, Catholic Relief Services is raising funds to assist the people in Haiti. To help them, please visit CRS.org. Their phone number is 800-736-3467.

About Angel Aloma and Food For The Poor
Angel A. Aloma is Executive Director of Food For The Poor, the largest international relief and development organization in the US, serving 17 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America. As Executive Director, Aloma assists Robin Mahfood, President/CEO of Food For The Poor, with the management of the entire operation. Aloma’s professional expertise in banking, as an auditor, and in the administration of business entities, together with his in-depth educational background, have equipped him with the necessary skills to guide Food For The Poor during its incredible growth.

Aloma is a “communicator par excellence” and has become an enthusiastic spokesperson for Food For The Poor. Also fluent in Spanish and becoming proficient in Creole, Aloma is better able to convey the message of the mission to Food For The Poor supporters and partners everywhere. As an educator, Aloma started a program to feed the homeless in Broward County (MANO) and led several mission trips to the Caribbean countries. He is especially attuned to the plight of the poor in our hemisphere.

Aloma was born in Santiago, Cuba, reared primarily in Jamaica where he attended Campion College in Kingston, Jamaica. He is a graduate of the University of Windsor in Canada, and received his Master’s Degree from Nova Southeastern University. Aloma is married with four children and four grandchildren, and resides with his wife Denise in Davie, Florida.

    Hey Greg and Jennifer,

Thanks for putting up the info again on this fund drive. Just checking to see if this is a re-posting of the interview/story you did w/Mr. Aloma on 12/8, or if you had been in contact with him since 1/12. Wanting to know if he was in Port Au Prince when the 7.0 struck; and if so, is he safe? Please either RE this comment, or update on a “podcast” edition w/any info you might have.

    In His service, and yours,

    Dan, from Boston

Angel was on our show again yesterday. He’s in the process of chartering a plane to get to Haiti to ascertain the damage himself.

    • Dan says:

Thanks Greg. Coincidentally, we just received a “Food for the Poor” envelope in the mail today. You can bet that we’ll be sending something soon. Also, if you could keep a co-worker/friend of mine’s family in your prayers. He has family not two miles from the epicenter, and has not heard from them yet. Thanks.

      Peace,

      Dan from Boston
