Lullabies for Lily

Lullabyes for LilyA couple weeks ago our friend Dan Harms from the band Popple was here for a visit.

While he was here we were goofing around, playing some songs on the piano and guitar. Near the end of the night I picked up Dan’s guitar and was amazed at how easy it was to play his compared to the guitar I typically play.

The guitar I play is actually one Jennifer bought long before we even met, but she never uses. So when we got married, it pretty much became my main guitar. It’s a very nice guitar, but after playing Dan’s, I realized I could probably have some work done on it to make it even easier to play and better sounding to boot. So last weekend, I dropped off the guitar at a local music store and ever since picking it up on Monday, I’ve been playing the guitar quite a bit again.

The cool thing is that we’ve also discovered Lily has an instant reaction to the guitar. In fact, just about every time I’ve started playing when she was fussy, she’d stop crying almost immediately.

So last night when she was getting particularly fussy, I went and got the guitar and Jennifer, Lily, and I ended up recording a couple of videos as we serenaded our little girl.

  • Okay, Where do I start!

    1. Fix You is one of the best songs and you two rocked it!
    2. Lily looked like she was moving her mouth, like she was trying to sing along. She is such a cute little peanut.
    3. Jennifer, you look fantastic!
    3. Greg, seriously, nice vocals, I knew Jennifer could sing, but you can hold your own too!

  • What a great singing duo(we already knew you we a great married duo)!!! We too have found the guitar is a great baby soother, my husband has used it with all 5 of our kids. Since he is a huge Beatles fan that’s what they have grown up hearing him sing & play. Nothing can tug a mom’s heart more than your 9 year old son singing “Let it Be”. And as a family we do a rocking rendition of “Lucy in the Sky”.

  • Wow, just bounced over here from the FB post. This may sound trite, but you guys do rock. Lily looked like she was enjoying it too.

    Awesome! God Bless you all!

  • I love you guys! Greg I never knew you had such skills. I hope to do the same to our soon to be adopted son. 1 yr 7 months. We pray he will be officially be home with us by July. Right now we only get to have for 3 hours at a time.

God bless you and your beautiful family. You certainly have helped me and my family grow in their faith and you and your wife have also helped me with assisting in teaching R.C.I.A.

    Thanks again.

  • WOW – how awesome are you guys?! My husband plays guitar too and I sing, but we didn’t do much of this with our first girl now 2. Next girl due on Monday 3/30!! I think this is a great idea for those fussy times and I’m going to have hubby watch the vids. Thanks so much for sharing and Lily is gorgeous! You guys aren’t so bad yourselves.

  • I have a 2 month old, unfortunatly I am so tone deaf that if I sing my daughter would cry. I have found however that Latin calms my daughter, I am limited in what I can say but the Salve Regina seems to do the trick everytime

  • So when are you guys going into the studio to record your album? 🙂 Just can’t get over how cute your latest kidlet is! Wish I was there to give her a gianormous hug. Give her one for me, please!

    God Bless,
    Neil
