Gene Luen Yang on Creativity, Faith, and Comic Books

On this episode, we talk about getting mugged. Or rather, we start selling mugs. But it felt like we got mugged by unexplained shipping costs.  We also share some of the challenges as well as huge blessings of these last few difficult days, and Greg has an inspiring conversation with award-winning writer Gene Yang that’s worth listening to for both fans of comic books, as well as those seeking to bring their own talents and skills to greater fruition.

During their discussion, Greg and Gene talk a deep dive conversation into the creative process, the journey of Gene’s family into Catholicism, and Gene’s own struggles with stress and anxiety in the midst of creativity and blessings in life.  

About Gene Yang: 
Award winning author and cartoonist Gene Yang is the creator of the first graphic novel to be nominated for a National Book Award, and the first to win the American Library Association’s Printz Award.  

He’s also the writer and artist behind one of Greg’s all-time favorites: The Rosary Comic Book.

These days, Gene writes for DC Comics, among others, bringing to life the latest adventures of Superman and more.  He’s the current writer of The Terrifics (featuring Plastic Man) for DC.
