Hip Hip Hooray – A New Popple CD!

Hip Hip HoorayWe’re very excited that Dan and Kyle, our buddies from the great Catholic band Popple, have released a new CD called Hip Hip Hooray!

You can listen to the entire CD on Popple’s website, and purchase a digital download version of the CD starting today for just $7.99. You can also pre-order the physical CD copy of the new songs, which will be released on November 17th. Very exciting!

The MP3 files are encoded at 192 and 320 KBPS. They do not contain DRM and can be played on every digital music player. Videos are in HD on the DVD but the digital downloads have been compressed to (640×480) MP4s for faster downloading but are still large files.

Next time we check our email, we will send out a personal email with the link for the download. There is no shipping for digital downloads, for other items, shipping is $1(min) to $5(max) for orders to the US.

Popple is (are?) doing awesome things for the Catholic Church, so please toss out 8 bucks and get their new CD today!

And just for fun, here’s a video I shot for Popple a couple years ago:

Adam Our Producer is the New Voice of Wendy’s!

Wendy's HamburgerWe are incredibly proud of our producer (and friend) Adam Hamway for landing his current side gig as the new national voice for Wendy’s restaurants.  Starting on Friday, October 9, when you hear a guy narrating Wendy’s commercials on TV and radio…that’s Adam!

Adam will continue his duties as the producer of The Catholics Next Door, but this is very exciting for Adam and we couldn’t be happier for him.  Check out the first of the new series of commercials you’ll be seeing (and hearing) over the next few weeks:

I Want a Jetpack

Greg and his jetpackOn today’s show we talked about cool technology and I went off on a rant about wanting a jetpack like George Jetson’s.  I’ve been waiting for one ever since seeing one used during the 1984 Olympics opening ceremony.

To my surprise, shortly after talking about wanting a jetpack, listener Camille sent an email and photoshopped image saying, “This is probably as close to a jetpack as he’s going to get.”

I thought this was too stinking funny.

Thanks, Camille!

Jennifer in the Papal Chair

The main reason we went to New York last week was to record, “A Conversation With The Archbishop,” with Archbishop Timothy Dolan.

The show is actually recorded in the Archbishop’s office in his residence, so we were given a tour of the place.

While there, our boss Joseph Zwilling showed us the reception room where both Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI had been received when visiting New York. In the room was a chair reserved for the Holy Father.

Jennifer, curious as always, asked if anyone else ever sat there. Joe saw where she was going with this line of questioning and invited her to take a seat.

So here is Jennifer sitting in the Pope’s chair, reserved just for Popes and apparently my wife.

And here is a picture of us with Archbishop Timothy Dolan, who could not have been a nicer guy. New York is blessed to have him.

Muppet Whatnot Workshop

Hanging out with a Muppet at FAO Schwartz
Hanging out with a Muppet at FAO Schwartz

While in New York over the weekend we had to go to the 5th Avenue Apple store to pick up a replacement power supply for Jennifer’s laptop. Ironically, it was more convenient to get that thing while we were in New York than it would be to get one here in Atlanta.

To our surprise, the legendary FAO Schwartz toy store was right next to the Apple store, so we headed inside just to look around.

Overall, I was very impressed with this place. We didn’t buy anything because most everything could be purchased for cheaper on Amazon, but one thing you could only get at FAO Schwartz was your own personalized Muppet in their Muppet Whatnot Workshop. And for that, I was tempted.

Basically, you get to pick all the parts of what you’d want your Muppet to look like. You choose from three different body types, a bunch of different hair styles, eyes, noses, clothes, and other sundry things, and the FAO Workshop employees will build your Muppet right there on the spot. And they actually look like real Muppets straight from Sesame Street.

In the video you’ll see me playing around with one of the demo ones they had sitting around. I admit, this was somewhat like a childhood dream of mine. I’ve always loved the Muppets, and to actually get to play with one was uber-cool. But I just couldn’t imagine tossing down $130 for a puppet that I’d only play with for about 10 minutes before our kids would appropriate and then eventually destroy it.

But that minute of goofing around in FAO Schwartz was a lot of fun.

Searching For Balto (VIDEO)

photoAfter our show in New York on Friday, we decided to enjoy the crisp Fall weather and head over to Central Park.

Every time we come to New York, our boys ask us to try to find the statue of Balto the Dog in Central Park, just so we can tell them we saw it. They’ve never been here with us, mind you. They just want to live vicariously through us.

Considering this was our fourth trip here in fourteen months, this time I decided to deliver and I was pretty determined to find this stupid dog statue!

Using Google Maps, a Central Park iPhone application, and a few articles on Wikipedia, I knew we were headed in the right direction but couldn’t quite find the statue.

Finally, as I felt like we were getting close, we decided to make the attached video so our boys could relive the experience with us.

We did it, boys! We found Balto! (Click through to see the video)

Stucco Guy Outside Our Window

Picture 2We had some hail damage on the front of our house so this week, courtesy of our insurance company, we are having a new stucco front put on our house.

Yesterday, the workers were quiet during our show.  No big deal.

Today, however, there is a constant, LOUD, scraping noise right on the other side of our studio.  We’re really hoping they’ll get this bit done before we go on the air in 45 minutes.

Check out this video of the weirdness of seeing a guy outside our second floor window.

One Year of The Catholics Next Door

On the top of the following image, you’ll see a picture of us from one year ago today. On the bottom is a picture of us today as we prepare for the 1-year anniversary launch of The Catholics Next Door on The Catholic Channel (Sirius 159/XM 117). Jennifer aged much better than me.
TCNDBeforeAfter
In the picture on the top, Jennifer was a few months pregnant, and I was about 25 pounds heavier. We had no idea what it was like having a girl in our house. We had not yet had our tiny screened-in porch converted into a tiny little bedroom for our soon-to-be-born-daughter.

Rosary Army Office Tour

Picture 3I was at the Rosary Army office doing some work this afternoon and thought since we talk about Rosary Army so often on our radio show that perhaps you might enjoy a brief tour of the Rosary Army Headquarters.

And of course, if you would like a free all-twine knotted Rosary, be sure to stop over at Rosary Army’s website, print off a form, and send it off to us and we’ll be happy to help you out!

Louis de Wohl – Awesome Catholic Author

http://earthstation1.simplenet.com(Originally posted on 4/29/09) On today’s show we mentioned books by Louis de Wohl. If you love well-written fiction, read these. But know that they’re actually historical (true) books written like fictional novels. Here are ones we’ve read and recommend, but there are many others he wrote that are available:

Three Hours of Photos

This morning we decided to take photos from our studio during the broadcast of today’s show and we posted them in realtime over on Facebook (Click here for Greg on Facebook and click here for Jennifer on Facebook).

From this idea I now have a new profile picture I’m using on Facebook. This is pretty much what I look like during most shows:

In addition to this, here are the other pictures we took throughout the day:

Here’s the actual first picture I took using the camera on my computer:

Now Jennifer is talking about when a contractor stole an iPod out of our kitchen.

On break, right before our guest was expected to come on the show. Jennifer said these photos were unflattering, so I made an intentionally unflattering face so she’ll look even better.

We were talking about this book right so I took a picture of it. Need to get Jim Beckman on our show. Here’s a link to buy it. Awesome book called, “God, Help Me.”

This is how I put Jennifer on pause when I want to say something. 🙂
