Stations of the Cross and other MP3s for Lent

stationsA few years ago Jennifer and I recorded an audio version of the Stations of the Cross based on those celebrated by Pope John Paul II on Good Friday 1991.

As we launch into another Lent, we invite you to download and pray along with these stations of the cross.  Here’s the link: Stations of the Cross

Also, if you’re looking for additional audio reflections and talks for Lent, here are a few more we’ve produced over the years that you may have missed:

Downloadable Audio Rosaries can be found here

Audio Talk: Be An Apologist!

Audio Talk: Prayer in Relationships

Total Consecration Podcast (all the prayers for St. Louis de Montfort’s Total Consecration to Jesus Through Mary)

If you’d like to invite us to give a talk to your parish or group, be sure to check out our contact info on this link.  Though it’s usually just me that travels to give talks, sometimes both Jennifer and I are able to travel together to give combined talks, as well.

Looks Like We Have a New Boss

archbishop-timothy-dolanSome of you may not know that even though we host a show on Sirius/XM Satellite radio, The Catholic Channel (Sirius 159/XM 117) is actually run by the Archdiocese of New York for Sirius/XM.  So we work closely with both the Archdiocese as well as Sirius/XM.  It’s hard to explain, but it seems to work quite well.

Anyway, this morning the following press release was sent to us from our bosses at the Archdiocese.  This is big news not only for New York, but also for listeners of The Catholic Channel and Catholics around the world.  Congrats to New York, and a hearty welcome to Archbishop Dolan!

From the Archdiocese of New York’s Communications Office:

ARCHBISHOP DOLAN APPOINTED ARCHBISHOP OF NEW YORK
RETIREMENT OF CARDINAL EGAN ACCEPTED

Mid-show Doodle

I’m a doodler. Always have been and always will be.
Sometimes during the broadcast each day, I draw things that I don’t even remember drawing.

I’ve had teachers in the past who were amused by my drawing during class and others who would be driven crazy by it.

I’ve always found that in some situations, doodling helps me to concentrate.

During today’s show, I suddenly realized I was drawing Jennifer. By the end of the show, I was done.

Not a spot on drawing, but if our lives were cartoons, I imagine Jennifer would look like this.

Click through to see the drawing next to the model. 🙂

Footloose: The Autographed Copy

Last Tuesday Kevin and Michael Bacon (aka The Bacon Brothers) stopped by the program to talk about their newest CD, New Year’s Day.

If we’d been broadcasting out of the studio in New York, we’d actually have gotten to meet them, which would have been uber cool.

I admit that I actually saw Footloose – twice – when it was released back in 1984.

I even had the novelization of the movie.

What do you want from me? I was in 7th grade.

Anyway, to my surprise I checked the mail on Saturday and found a package from Sirius. I figured it was a book or something for an upcoming guest.

Instead, to my complete and total surprise, was the copy of Footloose on DVD that you see in this photo.

There was a post-it note on the front where our producer, Adam Hamway, had written “Peel This.”

I peeled away the sticker only to find that the DVD had been autographed by Kevin Bacon himself.

If you’d told me back in 1984 that someday I’d not only get a chance to host a radio show, but would someday interview Kevin Bacon, his brother, and get an autographed copy of Footloose on something called a “DVD,” I’d tell you that you were crazy.

38-year-old guys shouldn’t get geeky over stuff like this.

If We Were In New York We’d Be Guilty, Too.

I gotta say, we have an awesome crew for The Catholics Next Door, our show on The Catholic Channel.

With today being our last show until the day after Christmas, we’re all in a festive mood, including Jackie (our board operator) and Adam (our producer) up in New York.

They are SO festive, in fact, that they decided to spread the cheer by wrapping the desk that belongs to Jared, the producer on Lino Rulli’s The Catholic Guy (4PM EST M-F).

Now at first, my initial reaction was fear of retribution from Rulli. After all, Gus Lloyd (Seize the Day, 6-10AM EST M-F) recently wrote a parody song about Lino, and Lino retaliated with an entire ALBUM of songs poking fun at Gus.

But then I realized this desk belonged to the same guy that Lino loves to pick on during his show each day, so in fact, The Catholics Next Door were doing him a favor.

Glad to be of service, Lino. I just wish we’d been in the New York studio to wrap the stapler

Below is the final masterpiece.

Merry Christmas, Jarred!

Live Eggnog Tasting on CND

Once I made the discovery that Greg never had eggnog, I knew I had to take advantage of this opportunity. What a perfect time to taste it live on the air.  I made sure he was good and ready.  He knew the history, the flavor choices, etc.

Here Greg is about to taste his very first sip of eggnog (non-alcoholic) live on the air.

A big thank you to Greg for being a good sport over the whole thing and for giving me a hearty laugh and a great photo op. I’ll need to come up with other live food and drink taste testings for him :).

We did learn that Jody, our dog, had no problem finishing off Greg’s unwanted beverage.

Rosaries From Syria

We’ve been giving away Rosaries lately compliments of our producer Adam Hamway, who went to Syria for a couple of weeks back in October, and brought back a bunch of Rosaries for us to give away on The Catholics Next Door.

If you’ve been fortunate enough to win one of those Rosaries, here’s Adam (on the left) outside the store where he bought them.

Its a little shop in Aleppo, Syria that makes all the crafts sold in churches in Aleppo. They are moving to Damascus soon for better business. So these Rosaries are collectors items!

Even though Adam abandoned us for two weeks to traipse around the middle east, we appreciate the Rosaries.

Caption this photo contest

I took this photo of Greg while he was checking his iPhone email while laying down.  We WERE having a conversation.  In fact, I just asked if he could help me out and feed our youngest son.  I couldn’t help but notice his amazing ability to remain almost frozen in this exact position for several minutes.  And then I looked even closer and noticed his eyes.

In all my years of seeing him sleep, I’ve never found him in this position before.  So, just to make things a little fun, I thought I would open this photo up for a caption contest.  So if you desire, go ahead and leave your caption blurbs in our comment section of this post!

How to Beat FOCA and Grassroots Films

defending_life_hostFather Frank Pavone from Priests for Life was on the program today and encouraged everyone to already start contacting your local representatives to tell them you do not want them supporting FOCA. The louder people are against this bill before it is even introduced, the better the chance it’ll show up D.O.A.

If you don’t know how to find your local representatives, check out the Priests For Life website here.

And yesterday Joe Campo from Grassroots Films stopped by. Be sure to check out the trailer for their new film, The Human Experience, as well as their other films!

Title Track From the Debut Album

After a roaring debut on today’s edition of The Catholics Next Door, the brand new band Venezuelan Ministry of Defense has recorded two different versions of their title song from their new CD, And Wealthy And Dead.

We hope you enjoy them.

If you do a cover for YOUR band name, here are the rules:

  1. You must mention the name of your CD in the song
  2. You must use the secret words of either antelope or cantelope
  3. There must be some sort of Catholic message in your song.

If you record one, send it to us at [email protected] and we’ll play your tune on the air!
